Marriage, Samesex, would, scene, Ways, appropriate, rally

Question by : In what ways would a sex scene be appropriate?

In the past weeks of using Y!A, I've noticed that under a lot of sex scene questions, answers sometimes say "Don't write sex scenes...ever."

In your opinion, when is it appropriate for characters to make love and it be very much mentioned in the story?
I'm not asking for the novel I'm currently working on. I'm asking completely in general.

I think only when your target audience are those women and men who are experienced in reading romance novels to the point where they expect/demand a sex scene. Also, the characters have to be attracted, that seems a common trend in America.
